BRINGING THE OUTDOORS INDOORS

With a multidisciplinary background in art and interior design, Mary brings a unique perspective to her work. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts, an Interior Design degree, and Executive Degree in Sustainability from Presidio Graduate School, she is driven by her passion for creating spirited art and spaces by bringing the outdoors indoors. Mary’s career has taken her to diverse settings, from homes to hospitals to helping design the interiors for the International Space Station for NASA. Her mission is clear: to bridge art, aesthetics, design, and architecture, connecting people to their surroundings and to themselves. Inspired by her family’s legacy—her father and grandfather were rocket scientists working with the government, military and NASA while her maternal grandfather was an architect—Mary’s work in architecture, real estate, and renovation is deeply rooted in her heritage. Additionally, her mother and grandmother, both artists, instilled in her a love for creativity and expression from an early age. Creating art and “a sense of place” in environments is her passion, evident in her commitment to designing spaces that foster well-being and connectivity. Her exposure to working and living in Italy, New Zealand, India, China, and Africa teaching art and creating interiors has contributed to her life-long curiosity and weaves together her love of travel, color, culture, and nature. She loves teaching art to all ages in small or larger team-building groups to connect, be creative and have fun! Her art is in private collections and sold at Karl the Store in Sausalito, California. Mary also loves spending time outdoors in beauty, from exotic locations to our own backyard in the Bay area playing tennis, hiking and exploring with her adult kids, Lizzy and Alex Roberts, who live and work in San Francisco at Salesforce.org and at The Presidio Trust in forestry.

Mary was selected to be one of four artists in the Art in Public Places installation this year, with her work exhibited this past June-September. Using color, light, and nature’s beauty as inspiration, she created a vision of what she loves about Mill Valley. A main source of inspiration was the majestic Redwood trees that encourage us to connect to personal and collective roots. MILL VALLEY IS LOVE links the old and new, intertwining the historic with the modern while honoring the community's rich heritage. Mary's art similarly invites viewers to explore the extraordinary bond between humanity and nature that grounds and elevates us naturally.
